Re: Dell Optiplex 7010 USB 3.0 vib package

vijayrana968, the USB device is a USB 3.0 external hard drive which is connected to a USB 3.0 port built-in the motherboard. The external USB 3.0 hard drive shows up as: Bus 004 Device 002: ID 067b:2773 Prolific Technology, Inc. PL2773 SATAII bridge controller. The controller where this USB drive is attached is shown as 0000:00:14.0 Serial bus controller: Intel Corporation 7 Series/C210 Series Chipset Family USB xHCI Host Controller. This is what I would like to set to passthrough mode.

I have two other USB 3.0 hard drives attached to a PCI card. The PCI card is already set to passthrough and all works fine there. This is detected by ESXi as:0000:01:00.0 Serial bus controller: ASMedia Technology Inc. ASM1042A USB 3.0 Host Controller. The two USB drives attached to the PCI card are working normally and they appear in the guest OS.

The objective now is to add a third external USB drive to the guest OS, and that USB drive is connected to the USB 3.0 port built-in to the motherboard as explained in the first paragraph.

Thanks,

MV

Thanks for the posting. We are working on the issue right now.

There's workaround you may have a try: exit full screen and then enter full screen mode again, the guest desktop can show normally.

I just found out that no snapshot loads with my edited .vmsd file. But as soon as I remove the lines belonging to my restored snapshot, all other snapshots load. Can you please tell me what's wrong with my .vmsd?

Attached is the more correct version (please ignore the vmsd file from the first post). But it still gives the same error if I leave any lines belonging to that snapshot.

After research on internet, I know that we will can not do anything on ESXi host when we don't have license. We will loose all VMs.

Missing options on Web Cliente 6.5 v1.21

Hi

In comparison to C # Client, I am sending missing features in the ESXi 6.5 Web Client, version 1.21 ...

I can not:

* Rename a network interface and VMKernels

* Rename a vSwitch

* Create a Resource Pool or Folder to organize the VMs

* Change the default swap file location of VMs (for the host, not the individual VMs)

Among other things I have been testing ... I would know if this will be implemented in the future or if it is some error in my interface ....

I was able to do all this using the C # Client.

But, for example, the Resource Pool does not appear in the Web client, only in the C #....

What am I doing wrong?

Environment:

VSphere 6.5.0 (Build 5310538)

HPE Customized Image ESXi 6.5.0 version 650.10.1.0.47 released on July 2017

Updated web client for version 1.21

I do not have vCenter.

I need to do this on a standalone host.

One DataStore used to add VMDKs and RDMs to the same VM.

Hello Everyone, I'm trying to add a new RDM disk over my VM but I can't see the LUN when I reach the step to select what LUN I want to use to do it. The DataStore is a 2 TB VMFS5 Type, initially the space of that DataStore was passed to the VM in 4 parts of 500 GB, each one is a VMDK or Virtual Disk, but I have taken one of these and removed it from the VM successfully, so the DataStore has 500 GB available again and now I want to add this space as RDM but I can't see the LUN, but If I try to add again this space as a VMDK, I don't have problems.

Can I use a DataStore to configure VMDKs and RDMs for the same VM?.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Regards. WM

How do I get all VMs for a VIserver

Hi,

I import module vmware.powercli, then issue a Connect-VIServer -server MyVMVIServer.acme.com and after I enter my creds, im connected on port 443.

I can issue a Get-VM myvmbox -Server MyVMVIServer.acme.com -Location somedatacenter and I get info about myvmbox, however is there a way to just give me all the VMs and their properties under a VIServer such as MYVMVIServer the way I can do with Powershell using a filter like 'Get-AdDomainController -Filter *' which will give me everything.

This is a new install of VMWare with NSX which im not really familiar with, so wondering how I can get all VMs returned.

Thanks in advance.

Is there any strong reasons why we should not configure DRS for the cluster which is serving for VDI machines?

Hi Phil,

That's good new info, thanks! I have DirectFlex enabled in my test setup, but I don't have any Office applications installed.

In your setup, does the problem occur only after launching other applications (like Office), or can you reproduce it by just launching IE after having removed the user's profile?

Hi,

I setup a WinPE image as per Manual and iti s working fine except one thing:

We are using SSL connection between mirage server and clients.

The root certificate is in WinPE image. When new machine with mirage client installed from WinPE trying to connect to server it gets the error:

"X509Chain: System.Security.Cryptography.X509Certificates.X509Chanin

SslPolicyErrors: RemoteCertificateChainErrors"

And this:

"Exception caught during socket creation: The remote certificate is invalid according to the validation procedure"

All the other machines that already in domain pass this validation with no issues.

Hi UEMdev,

It happens before the application is launched. It can be reproduced by installing office, enabling directflex and upon login launched the IE and go to the website. Hope this helps, I'm still testing and found that it happens to other applications that has directflex enabled. I'll keep you posted.

Running V5.5 Build 3000347 - embedded db

i had successfully migrated vcenter server from one host to another.  The vcenter was running on an external datastore.  Before i could move it off of that datastore, connectivity was lost to that datastore, forcing the filesystem to r/o from linux perspective.  after connectivity was restored, i reloaded vcenter, but vpxd failed to come up.  There were a few errors in the log that i was able to resolve, but still vpxd wouldn't come up even with a clean error log.  So decided to backup the database and create a fresh install from which i could restore.  During the backup, ran into this error:

pg_dump: Error message from server: ERROR:  missing chunk number"

This led me to a particular table: vpx.vpx_vm which had a corrupted row.  I removed that row and was able to backup the database.  After which i though maybe vpxd would come up, but then ran into this error in vpxd.log:

Is there any hope in recovering this vcenter?

Haha... no worries... Thank you for your help Martijn

I'll be back soon with questions around integrating physical and virtual worlds when using NSX! Watch this space!
